The Nichols Family
An American Story

Conversations with Neal increasingly centered on stories and questions about his ancestry, and ultimately led to an in-depth project to explore his paternal family line. This book tracks 400 years of family history, and in so doing provides a narrative about America from its earliest days in the English colonial period of New England, through the American Revolution and the Civil War, across the settlements of the interior West, to the halls of power during World War II and the advent of new commerce in the post-war era. A detailed timeline lists major activities of ancestors amid critical local, national and international events. Family trees, historical photographs, maps, news clippings and other documents also help tell the story. This 324-page hardcover book, with detailed footnotes, is a treasured keepsake of various branches and generations of the Nichols family. The Library of Congress and several historical archives around the country also hold copies.
